MIDSUMMER – THE GAUHAR HELSINKI WAY
Share
There is a unique magic that settles over Finland in late June. The city empties and time feels like it stands still. Midsummer (or Juhannus) is finally here. It is our absolute favourite time of the year, a celebration of light, nature, and effortless joy of the Finnish summer.
Whether you are heading to a cabin (mökki) or enjoying a quiet city weekend, here is our little guide to embracing a slow, beautiful Midsummer, the Gauhar Helsinki way.
Comfort is key
As much as we dream of bare feet and tropical heat, Finnish summer weather is notoriously unpredictable. You might experience a blissful 25°C heatwave, a sudden chilling wind, or a refreshing summer shower, all in the span of a single afternoon! Mixing airy, feminine textures with cozy, practical layers is the core of Scandinavian summer style. Beautiful, functional, and ready for anything (or nothing).

Simple, Seasonal Flavors on the Plate
Midsummer food should not be complicated. For us, it's all about celebrating the very first harvests of the season, which taste like pure sunshine (even if it rains).
Our dream Juhannus menu is effortlessly simple: Freshly harvested new potatoes with plenty of fresh dill, served alongside smoked salmon and pickled herring. For dessert: fresh strawberries!

Magical nightless night
A Midsummer bonfire is the centerpiece of Juhannus, symbolizing the arrival of summer and the endless daylight. The fires are actually believed to bring good fortune, ensure a successful crop harvest, and promote productivity for the coming year. If you have the opportunity to go to the sauna and take a swim you definitely should! Otherwise our PINE diffuser and body wash will set the mood...

Wherever this Midsummer takes you, we wish you days filled with laughter, nights filled with light, and plenty of quality time to just be with near and dear ones.
